Welcome to London, the iconic capital city of the UK! London is situated in the south-east of England on the River Thames, and has a population of more than 11 million, making it the largest city in the UK. London is home to Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and The Houses of Parliament. You will never get bored in this trendy, exciting and cosmopolitan city.

GETTING TO LONDON
London has five airports in total with Heathrow Airport (LHR) being the busiest. Heathrow is located in Zone 5, 15 miles west of the city centre and there are daily domestic and international flights. There are frequent bus and train services connecting the airport with central London (Piccadilly underground line, Heathrow Express and the Heathrow Connect), or you can call one of the local taxi companies. (TIP: London Stansted, Luton Gatwick, and City Airport are great for low-cost flight providers that fly from destinations throughout Europe.) GETTING AROUND LONDON
Public transport in London is excellent and the entire city is easily accessible. London Transport operates both the London underground and overground trains and bus network. Tickets are inexpensive and there are a number of ticket options available depending on zones travelled and length of stay. (TIP: London is divided into Zones 1-9. Central London is Zone 1.) London is a very friendly city for walking and cycling, so many students walk or cycle.

THINGS TO DO IN LONDON
London is one of the most visited cities in the world with a diversity of attractions. Spend a few hours in the British Museum, National History Museum or the Churchill War Rooms, visit the London Aquarium, Madame Tussauds or Buckingham Palace, or enjoy a show at one of London's many theatres in the West End. If you are a sports fan, there is 'Premier League' football at The Emirates and Stamford Bridge, and for the more energetic, enjoy a run or a cycle along the River Thames or through the streets and many parks in the city, to see some of the city's famous landmarks. SHOPPING IN LONDON
London is world renowned for great shopping and there is a shopping hub in every district of the city. Popular areas for high street shopping include Regents Street and Oxford Circus. For more exclusive shops, visit Bond Street. London is famous for its prestigious department stores including Selfridges, Liberty and John Lewis with the most famous being Harrods in Knightsbridge. London is home to a number of fun and exciting street markets including the Portobello Road Market in Notting Hill, the Columbia Road Flower Market and the popular Camden Market.

STUDYING IN LONDON
London has a huge student population and is home to a number of universities, business schools and colleges. The main universities are, the University College London, St. Mary's University College, the University of Greenwich and City University.
